Canisius-Robert Morris Preview

Senior Nathan Longpre is ninth in the nation in scoring.

The Griffs will take on the Robert Morris Colonials tonight at 7 p.m. The Griffs are coming off two tough-fought contests against Air Force, and the short turnaround between games can become a factor in this game.

This game can potentially see senior Cory Conacher break another record. Conacher is two points from breaking Josh Heidinger’s record for career points (132). The player who may be the best to play for Canisius has 131 career points. He also has been named a finalist for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS award, for Celebrating Loyalty and Acheivement for Staying in School.

The Griffs defeated Robert Morris earlier this season on Kyle Gibbons’ overtime goal in a 3-2 win. Canisius leads the all-time series 3-2-1. Head coach Dave Smith’s first win came against the Colonials in a 6-4 win.

Robert Morris is coming off a 6-5 overtime win and a 2-2 tie against Niagara. Leading the Colonials is senior Nathan Longpre who has 36 points (14g, 22a) in 26 games. The Griffs also have to contain senior defenseman Denny Urban who has 31 points (7g, 24a) in 27 games. There is an 11 point drop-off between second and third place in scoring for Robert Morris. Junior Brooks Ostergard will likely get the call in net. He has a 11-5-1 record. Canisius’ overtime win came against sophomore Eric Levine, who has a 4-3-3 record.
